Metrorail Gauteng is well pleased with the 10-year imprisonment sentence that was handed down to a suspect for tempering with essential infrastructure. Mr Clive Ndlovu was found guilty at Kempton Park on the 06th of April 2023. The convicted Mr Ndlovu was arrested in February 2022 where he was found digging signal cables between Kempton Park and Rhodesfield train stations. His accomplice managed to flee from the scene before he could be identified.
Metrorail Protection Services officials gave credible testimony during several court appearances during 2022 until the sentence was handed down in April 2023. Mr Ndlovu was convicted under the act Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015.
Metrorail Spokesperson Ms Lillian Mofokeng said Metrorail Gauteng is confident that the 10-year sentence will serve as a warning to other criminals who target the railway infrastructure. She said Metrorail is also pleased that the courts are prosecuting and handing down severe sentences to rail related crimes. She said that she trusts that all stakeholders will continue to work together to fight against criminal activities. Mofokeng urged the public to report any suspicious persons seen on the railway environment to Metrorail Protection Services on 011 013 0055 or to the nearest Police Station.
